The webinar focuses on the HbbTV specification for phase 2 of application discovery over broadband (ADB2). The feature enables viewers to access HbbTV services even when they are blocked, for example through non-compliant set-top boxes. The agenda includes the motivation behind ADB2, technical details, implementation examples, local market reports and future use cases such as targeted advertising.

Joe Winograd is the Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Verance Corporation and has directed the company’s development of watermark technologies and solutions since 1995. He led Verance’s efforts to establish the company’s technology as the industry standard for movies, television, and music and has guided its deployment in hundreds of millions of consumer electronics and entertainment products. Joe represents the company in multiple standards bodies and industry consortia and has been a featured presenter at numerous industry events.
Klaus Merkel is Senior Engineer at German broadcast technology institute IRT. Since 1995 Klaus has been engaged in various working groups in the definition and market introduction of open and interoperable platforms for digital interactive television. With various standardisation activities being an important part of this work, he was deeply involved in the launching phase of the HbbTV initiative in 2009. Klaus coordinates IRT’s activities related to HbbTV and actively contributes to the further development of the standard and its practical application in operational market environments.
