Enhancing Sign Language experience with WebAssembly

(Session ID: UC24-015)

Proposer: Rafael Bermúdez, 3Cat

Summary of topic:

Most HbbTV devices only support one video decoder, limiting options for providing sign language services and often resulting in suboptimal solutions. In this session, we’ll present an experiment using WebAssembly to decode sign language via software, share our results, and open a discussion on how to make this approach a practical solution.

Session goals:

  • Presentation of the Experiment – We will begin by presenting our experiment using WebAssembly to decode sign language content, outlining the setup and approach.
  • Feedback on the Experiment – We’ll invite participants to provide feedback on the experiment’s outcomes and discuss its effectiveness.
  • Identify Technical Challenges – Together, we’ll discuss the technical challenges involved in transforming this experiment into a real product.
  • Explore Collaboration Opportunities – Finally, we’ll explore opportunities for collaboration to help transition this experiment into a practical solution.
